What we do
Legal costs work is specialist. Most solicitors do not draft their own bills of costs, respond to detailed assessment, or attend SCCO hearings in person. Until now, finding a costs lawyer typically meant calling around, asking colleagues for recommendations, or settling for whoever happened to be available.
Find a Cost Lawyer is a simple way to put a piece of costs work in front of qualified costs lawyers and receive competitive quotes in return. You submit a request, approved suppliers review it, and you pick the quote that suits.
Who operates the platform
The platform is operated by Mackenzie Costs Limited, a company registered in England and Wales. It was founded by William Mackenzie, a Costs Lawyer regulated by the Costs Lawyer Standards Board and recognised by The Legal 500 UK as a Next Generation Partner in costs work.
Mackenzie Costs practises as a regulated costs lawyer in its own right. We built the platform because we kept being asked by solicitors for recommendations and wanted a cleaner way to match work with people, including work that does not fit our own capacity or specialism.
Who the suppliers are
Every supplier on the platform is an approved costs professional. We review applications before a supplier can see or bid on a request, and we reserve the right to decline or suspend an account where we have reason to doubt qualifications, regulatory status, or professional standing.
Regulation
Find a Cost Lawyer is a marketplace and does not itself provide legal services. Any engagement that follows a quote is a direct retainer between the customer and the supplier, governed by that supplier's own regulatory framework. For a costs lawyer, that will be the Costs Lawyer Standards Board; for a solicitor acting in the costs space, it will be the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
